A MAN who punched Leona Lewis in the head at a book signing has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

Peter Kopwalczyk, 29, of south London, was also charged with common assault and will appear before magistrates later this month.

Kopwalczyk hit Lewis, 24, around the head as she signed copies of her autobiography at a Waterstones store in London on Wednesday.

According to a report in the Sun newspaper, Kowalczyk was jealous of Lewis for winning the X Factor after he was turned down for the show.

Police sources say it took doctors hours to calm him down before he could be questioned.

Lewis was forced to cancel a day-long promotional visit to Germany yesterday as she recovered.
