Neil Young Rocks Hyde Park

Posted July 1 2009 06:23 PM

Neil Young wowed the Hard Rock Calling crowd with a two-hour set on 29.06.
And as an added bonus for the tens of thousands of fans at Hyde Park, he was joined on stage by Sir Paul McCartney for a rendition of the Beatles' song Day In The Life.
Young, who had headlined the Glastonbury Festival the night before - and wearing the same outfit - opened what would prove to be a fantastic set with Hey Hey, My My.
The crowd, who were drying off from an earlier downpour which hit the London park, sang along with the legendary singer as he treated them to classics including Cinnamon Girl, Rockin' In The Free World and Heart of Gold.
Then, as he launched into his Beatles encore - which he has covered on tour for the past two years - Sir Paul ran on stage, much to the delight and surprise of the audience, and sang with Young.
They both then took to the xylophone at the back of the stage before Sir Paul hugged Young and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
Warming the crowd up earlier in the day were The Pretenders, with Chrissie Hynde managing to stay her uber-cool self despite the searing temperatures.
Bluesman Seasick Steve was up next on the main stage, and got the crowd kicking up their heels, while on the smaller Pepsi Max stage, New York-based band rockers Alberta Cross played a set that made them a band that are definitely one to watch this year.
