Turn Tail
is the third single release from Young Knives new critically acclaimed album
Superabundance. Possibly the biggest record in the Knives recording history,
Turn Tail is a fine example of Young Knives doing melodic pop with massive
abandon.
In typical offbeat Young Knives style, the band have opted for some unusual
release formats for the single - which will be available on both limited
edition CD and 7'.
The CD version is to include a four track ep- featuring three new tracks along
with the single. For the 7-inch, the band will take their recording back to
basics by recording two lo-fi versions direct to vinyl. It may be of interest
to record enthusiasts that aside from mics and lathes picking up any sound in
the room, no recording studio or equipment will be involved.
Young Knives will be filmed recording the ep tracks for an online documentary. Visitors
to the band’s website can watch the footage and follow a link for details on
where to buy the special format. In the studio will be mastering engineer Guy
Davie (The Long Blondes/ Chemical Brothers/ The Streets) and engineer Mandy
Parnell (Feist/ Simian Mobile Disco), Hugh Paghams' assistant and writer for
the influential music recording magazine Tape Op.
Produced by Tony Doogan (Super Furry Animals, Mogwai, Belle & Sebastian, Dirty
Pretty Things) Superabundance is a vast progression from their previous work -
this body of work is (gasp) poppier and more expansive, but at the same time
remaining utterly idiosyncratic and true to the band’s leftfield and entirely
British roots, making for a genuinely compelling and tantalising listen. Young
Knives have a fine eye for astute and cynical observations is countered by a
new found mastery of pop sensibilities and soaring melodies, aligning the band
with such British greats of the last 20 years as Blur, Pulp and Radiohead.
Young Knives are currently on their 'Off The Beaten Track Tour’ visiting a
myriad of towns they have never performed in previously. International dates,
including a stint in Hong Kong, yet more triumphant British festivals dates and
a fuller national UK
tour will follow throughout the remainder of 2008.
