Nelly Furtado rules the European Charts

Posted April 20 2007 11:25 AM

Nelly Furtado scored a European double on Billboard`s new weekly composite charts. Her 'Loose' (Mosley/Geffen) started a sixth consecutive week at No. 1 on European Top 100 Albums, and eighth in total, while "Give It To Me" (Interscope) by Timbaland, on which Furtado and Justin Timberlake feature, soared from No. 24 to No. 1 on Eurochart Hot 100 Singles.

Furtado`s album, produced by Timbaland, climbed 7-4 in Italy, 8-4 in the United Kingdom and held at No. 2 in Poland and No. 4 in Portugal. The Timbaland single on which she returns the favor with a guest appearance jumped 8-1 in the United Kingdom on sales of 27,000 and debuted at No. 4 in Germany and No. 8 in Italy. It already topped the chart in Denmark, where it fell 1-2.

It`s only eight weeks since Furtado topped the Eurochart herself with "All Good Things (Come To An End)" and only two since Timberlake lead the survey with "What Goes Around Comes Around." Furtado enjoyed a new climb with another single from the 'Loose' set, "Say It Right," which climbed back to its previous Eurochart peak of No. 3. It improved 4-2 in Austria and 7-5 in Denmark and remained at No. 1 in Switzerland for a fourth aggregate week.

The highest new entry on Top 100 Albums, at No. 6, was 'Fornika' (Columbia) by German rap group Die Fantastischen Vier. It entered at No. 1 in Germany, No. 2 in Switzerland and No. 4 in Austria. The quartet, which hails from Stuttgart and has been recording since 1991, debuted at No. 12 on the composite chart with its last release 'Viel' in the autumn of 2004.

Kings Of Leon`s 'Because of the Times' (Hand Me Down/Sony/BMG) held at No. 7 on Top 100 Albums after scoring a second week atop the U.K. chart. Sales of 29,000 there brought it to a two-week tally of just under 100,000 units. The quartet is currently on a nine-date British tour that played London`s Hammersmith Apollo Wednesday night.

Jazz artist Roger Cicero, who`ll represent Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest in Helsinki next month, rebounded 26-15 on the aggregate chart with 'Maennersachen' (Starwatch), which edged back up 5-4 in Germany. Bright Eyes secured a No. 18 start with 'Cassadaga' (Polydor) after entering at No. 13 in the United Kingdom on sales of 11,000.

"Stop Me" (Columbia), a soul-flavored cover of "Stop Me If You Think You`ve Heard This One Before" from the Smiths` 1987 album 'Strangeways Here We Come,' moved 21-11 on the Eurochart for producer-turned-artist Mark Ronson. The track features vocals by Melbourne, Australia-born singer Daniel Merriweather.

German rock band Tokio Hotel debuts at No. 14 on the Eurochart with "Spring Nicht" (Universal Island), the single from its current hit album 'Zimmer 483.' The single arrived at No. 3 in Germany while the album, which was back up 23-17 on Top 100 Albums, was also enjoying success in France (11-10) and Hungary (7-5).
