Morrissey's Hall of Fame snub

Posted April 20 2007 11:51 PM

Morrissey is to snub his former band The Smiths' induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The 'Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now' singer is to be invited to the prestigious New York event next year to be presented with the honour, along with his former bandmates Johnny Marr, Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce.

However, Morrissey has allegedly vowed to send his invite back because he refuses to share a stage with drummer Joyce.

The pair, and Marr, were embroiled in a bitter court battle in 1996 over Joyce's share in Smiths' recording and performance royalties.

An insider told Britain's Daily Express newspaper: "Morrissey has never forgiven Joyce and if the organisers think he's going to bury the hatchet and join him to accept the award then they better think again.

"The only way he could be persuaded to turn up would be if Joyce decides not to attend."

Joyce, who along with bassist Rourke received only a 10 per cent share of the royalties, was awarded over Ј1 million in back pay and had his share increased to 25 per cent.

After the court case, Morrissey, 47, launched a vicious attack against his former bandmate, saying he "wished the very, very worst for Joyce for the rest of his life".
