Take That say 'forget' musical

Posted March 15 2007 04:54 PM

Take That would clearly rather forget plans to stage a new West End show based on the group following their surprise comeback.

The ageing boy band have swiftly issued a statement distancing themselves from the planned production, which takes it name from one of their former singles, Never Forget.

Remarking on the show, which will tell the tale of a fictional Take That tribute group, the recently re-united band declared: 'The band would like to state categorically that this production is being undertaken with neither their involvement nor their endorsement.'

'They would wish their fans and the public to know that this production is absolutely and 100 per cent nothing to do with Take That.'

Clearly the Manchester-based band do not share the view of producers, who have described the forthcoming musical as 'a feel-good comedy about love, friendship, ambition and betrayal'.

The show, which will feature former Take That hits such as Back For Good, Babe and Relight My Fire, follows existing stage shows based around the songs of former iconic bands, including the Abba-inspired Mama Mia! and We Will Rock You, based on the hits of Queen.

Meanwhile, Take That, who stormed back onto the music scene at the end of last year with their comeback single, Patience, are continuing their tour of the light entertainment circuit in order to cement their re-found fame.

The foursome will appear on Comic Relief this Friday, taking part in a celebrity version of The Apprentice alongside Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Cole.
