Mary J. Blige and Jamie Foxx take top honors at Soul Train Awards

Posted March 12 2007 01:50 PM

Although they weren’t there to accept the awards, R&B diva Mary J. Blige and actor/singer Jamie Foxx took home the top honors at the Soul Train Awards on Saturday. Blige won best R&B/soul album by a female artist for her smash hit ‘The Breakthrough’ and Foxx won the best male album award for ‘Unpredictable.’ The ceremony was held in Pasadena, California and will be aired on television March 17-24.

The show also featured a tribute to the late James Brown by the The Isley Brothers featuring Ron Isley – who also picked up an award for album by a group for ‘Baby Makin' Music’. The night also saw a performance from Oscar winner and former “American Idol” contestant Jennifer Hudson – who also picked up (as an honorary award) the Sammy Davis Jr Award for entertainer of the year.

Other winners included Beyonce for best single by a female for “Irreplaceable”; John Legend for best single by a male for “Save Room”; and Gnarls Barkley for best single by a group for “Crazy.” Ne-Yo took home the best new R&B, soul or rap artist award and Jay-Z’s “Show Me What You Got” received the Michael Jackson Award for best video.

Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds received the Stevie Wonder Award for outstanding career achievement in song-writing; and music producer Jermaine Dupri took home the Quincy Jones Award for outstanding career achievements.
