In an interview with CBS’ “60 Minutes,” country music superstar Kenny Chesney has denied rumors that he is gay. The rumors have been fueled since the singer’s marriage to actress Renee Zellweger was annulled on the basis of “fraud.” The interview will air on the popular news program on Sunday.

In the interview, Chesney, 38, speaks clearly about the assumption that the word “fraud” translates to gay, and states "It's not true. Period.” He also says he choice to remain silent about the rumor was because he didn’t want to give it more attention than it deserved. During the taped interview, Chesney does admit that he could have handled the situation differently, but also states that he didn’t feel the need to prove to anyone that he wasn’t gay.

Chesney and Zellweger were married in May, 2005, on the island of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The marriage, which was the first for both, came after a short time dating, and only lasted for four months.

Zellweger filed for the annulment (which legally states the marriage never existed) with “fraud” listed as the reason, but later stated the term was only used as “legal language” and not meant as a description of Chesney or his lifestyle.
