Daughtry's debut claws its way to No. 1

Posted January 25 2007 10:03 PM
Two months after it first hit stores, the self-titled debut from Daughtry--led by "American Idol" finalist Chris Daughtry--has logged its first week at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 album chart.

The set sold 65,000 copies in the US during the last week to edge out the "Dreamgirls" soundtrack, which sold about 130 fewer copies, according to Billboard. Billboard bases its album chart on Nielsen SoundScan retail reports.

The Disney "Jump In!" soundtrack moved up two notches to No. 3 with 57,000 copies sold. Corinne Bailey Rae, who performed last week on "The Oprah Winfrey Show," saw immediate dividends: her eight-month-old, self-titled debut rocketed 28 slots to No. 4 with sales of 55,000. Akon's "Konvicted" slipped three rungs to No. 5 with 52,000 copies sold, Billboard reported.

Rounding out the Top 10 are Justin Timberlake's "FutureSex/LoveSounds," the "NOW 23" hits compilation, Nickelback's "All the Right Reasons," Carrie Underwood's "Some Hearts" and Beyonce's "B'Day."
