Beyonce, Chili Peppers, Gnarls Barkley To Perform At Grammys

Posted January 11 2007 05:08 PM

The 49th annual Grammy Awards are shaping up to be a funky affair. Among the first group of performers announced Thursday (January 11) for the February 11 show are multiple nominees Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beyoncé and Gnarls Barkley, as well as controversial country trio the Dixie Chicks.

The Chili Peppers — who already have one Grammy for 1992's "Give It Away" — are likely to get several chances to take the stage at the Staples Center in Los Angeles that night. The band is among the leading nominees with six nods, including bids for Album of the Year and Best Rock Album for their double disc Stadium Arcadium, as well as Best Rock Performance By a Duo or Group With Vocal, Best Rock Song and Best Short Form Music Video for "Dani California".

First-time nominees and performers Gnarls Barkley will bring their costumed funk to the stage on a night when their debut, St. Elsewhere, is up for Album of the Year and Best Alternative Album, while their hit "Crazy" faces off for Record of the Year and Best Urban Alternative Performance.

Beyoncé — no stranger to the Grammy stage thanks to her nine wins and past performances — is up for four awards, including Best Female R&B Vocal Performance ("Ring the Alarm"), Best Contemporary R&B Album (B'Day), Best R&B Song ("Deja Vu") and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration ("Deja Vu," with Jay-Z).

The Dixie Chicks are also Grammy vets with eight wins, and scored nominations this year for Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Country Performance By a Duo or Group With Vocal for "Not Ready to Make Nice," and Album of the Year and Best Country Album for Taking the Long Way.

Among the presenters announced Thursday are singers Pink and Rihanna and actors Terrence Howard and Samuel L. Jackson.
