True Disco Brother

Posted November 24 2006 03:38 PM

The dance industry, clubbers, DJs and promoters have been paying their respects to Mark Wilson, one half of the Disco Brothers, who tragically took his own life on Wednesday 25th October.

He was a much-loved DJ and diplomat of the close-knit hard dance scene and was considered one of its greatest assets. Tim Cole, the other Disco Brother, had DJed with Mark since school.

“I am filled with great sadness,” said Tim.

“Mark was a major part of my life since childhood and was a brother to me in all aspects of my life as well as in the DJ booth.

“We shared some of the best moments and experiences of our lives together, travelling the world and living the dream that we had strived for since we were teenagers playing The Prodigy at our school disco.

“There are so many memories of fun and silliness over the years that I will always think of Mark with a smile on my face and this is how I’m sure we will all remember him.”

“He was like one of the family,” said Turnmills’ Danny Newman, who had worked closely with Mark over the years, most recently on London’s Metro Weekender.

“It’s a tragic loss and my heart goes out to all who knew him.”

Despite the collective sadness, many who knew him were willing to highlight the positive memories they shared with the cheeky DJ.

Anne Savage, who counted Mark as a friend, said: “He was one of the most genuine people in dance music and was really good at his job.

“I played with him many times. I’ll always remember our sets at Slinky in Bristol and hanging out backstage with him at festivals, where we always had a laugh and a drink.”

Russell Pate, MD of Tidy agreed that Mark was a top bloke.

“His enthusiasm for every project we worked on was boundless,” he said.

“In an industry filled to the brim with flaky chancers, Mark was a refreshing change - honesty and integrity were his middle names.

“Myself and all at Tidy will miss him dearly.”

Tim concluded: “We will all be left with cherished memories of a kind and gentle bloke who was always up for a laugh, pints of Stella and wearing a record sleeve on his head.”
