Snoop Unrolls Tracks for 'Blue Carpet Treatment'

Posted July 13 2006 11:48 AM

As the East battles the South's dirty domination, Snoop Dogg is betting the West will C-walk over the competition when his eighth solo album, 'Blue Carpet Treatment,' drops on Oct. 19.

The first single will be the Neptunes-produced 'Vato' -- "homie" in Spanish. Over a booming bass line, Snoop unites with Cypress Hill's B. Real to defuse lingering tension between Cali's Black and Latino communities.

Red and blue also join hands as the Game stops by for 'Gangbanging 101.' In what has become his trademark, Mr. G-Unit name drops everyone from 2Pac to the late Stanley "Tookie" Williams.

E-40, MC Eiht and the newly reconciled Dogg Pound get some 'Candy,' Timbaland takes over the boards for 'L.A. Zoo' and Brandy and Pharrell alternate vocals on the romantic 'So Special.' Even Stevie Wonder produces and sings on an updated version of his own 1976 song 'Have a Talk With God.'

Yet it's producer Nottz of Virginia who gives the D.O. Double what could be the album's biggest scorcher, 'That's That Sh*t,' a mid-tempo groove featuring R. Kelly at his R&B thug best.

Although the disc is "99% done," Doggystyle Records says Snoop is still actively recording. There's also no telling if recent work done with Dr. Dre will make the cut. In any event, Snoop is following in his mentor's lead in one area: producing. He did the beat for 'Gangbanging 101' under his alias of -- get this -- "Niggaracci."
