H.I.M. Channel Their Inner Iggy

Posted July 3 2006 12:12 PM

Though H.I.M. frontman Ville Valo says his band probably won't start recording the followup to 'Dark Light' until next January, the Finnish rockers already have an idea of what the vibe will be like.

"We're thinking it will be a bit more rock, a bit closer to what we sound like live," says Valo. "A lot of faster songs, a lot more energy and a punkiness, rawness to it." He's thinking "Iggy & the Stooges-type stuff."

Last time around, the group recorded in L.A. at the Paramour, a former monastery now perhaps best known as the home away from home for the contestants on CBS's 'Rock Star.' But Valo says after the busy touring schedule H.I.M. has been keeping in 2006, they'll probably do the next one at home.

"Our keyboard player [Emerson Burton] is having his first kid," he says. "Being away most of the year is way too rough."

Before H.I.M. can get onto the next record, they have several festival dates in Europe. Valo, a veteran of the circuit who only recently began appearing on the U.S. festival scene, is a fan of American diversity. "You have great festivals here," he says. "Europe they're pretty strict. They have their metal festivals, rock festivals, pop festivals, whatever. It's hard to get this variety."
