Timbaland

Genres: RAP/R&B

Timbaland & Magoo are a hip-hop duo from Norfolk, Virginia that stormed onto the scene in the fall of 1997 with their debut single "Up Jumps Da' Boogie" and album, Welcome to Our World. The duo met when they were teenagers in the early '90s. Over the next few years, they worked together intermitently as they concentrated on breaking into the music business. By the mid-'90s, Timbaland had established himself as a promising producer and in 1996 he began having hits. He produced Ginuwine's hit "Pony," as well SWV's "Can We" and Aaliyah's "One in a Million." Magoo had written a handful of cuts on the Ginuwine albums, as well as Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliot's debut, Supa Dupa Fly, which also featured several tracks produced by Timbaland. By 1997, the pair decided to launch a recording career together and in the fall of that year they released their debut album, Welcome to Our World. Its release was preceded by "Up Jumps Da' Boogie," a single featuring Missy Elliot and Aaliyah that became a Top 10 R&B hit.

McGraw and his touring band, the Dancehall Doctors, retreated to upstate New York to record the 2002 studio album, Tim McGraw and the Dancehall Doctors. The first single, "Red Ragtop," suggested an abortion-related story line, although the ensuing controversy didn't hinder his career. He filmed the video to "She's My Kind of Rain" in London, and his 2003 tour featured more than two hours of music, without an opening act.
