John Murphy mp3

John Murphy

Birthdate: January 1 1965 Genres: PopRock
Styles: Instrumental

Liverpool born John Murphy is among Britain's most prominent film composers and has become vital to the country's new wave of film makers, as well as an in demand composer for US productions.

A self taught musician, he became a session player at the age of fifteen and toured and recorded with many successful British bands of the 90s. Primarily a song-writer, John scored his first film at 23, the award winning Brit-hit Leon The Pig Farmer.

He then went on to score numerous films, including the British cult films Lock, Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels and Snatch. Since Snatch (2000), he has worked mostly out of Los Angeles, alternating between orchestral and his own eclectic brand of scoring.

John's diversity is illustrated by his scores of recent years; the Robert De Niro movie City By The Sea, Intermission starring Colin Farrell, Danny Boyle's post apocalyptic cult hit 28 Days Later, the hip-hop feature Friday After Next, and The Perfect Score starring Scarlett Johannson.

Released at cinema in 2005, John provided the ethereal music to Danny Boyle's Millions (his 4th feature for Danny Boyle), and also scored The Man (starring Samuel L Jackson) for New Line Cinema, and Guess Who.

John has recently worked on Basic Instinct 2 and Michaeal Mann's big screen re-working of Miami Vice. He is currently working on the Danny Boyle feature Sunshine.

Awards for his film music include the Silver Award (1st Prize) at Cannes, British D & AD Award, and John has been nominated for an Ivor Novello, an RTS Award, and the Brit Award for Best Soundtrack.

John has also composed and produced music for commercials, including campaigns for Reebok, Nike and Apple Mac. And the strength and impact of his score work has been recognised by a number of instances of his cues being re-licensed for advertising, trailers and television, most notably In The House, In A Heartbeat from 28 Days Later.

Schedule permitting, John is eager to pursue opportunities and collaborations to re-visit songwriting.
