The Dream Warriors began as King Lou and Capital Q (aka The Quiet Storm), a pair of Toronto, Canada-based alternative rappers. In 1993 the group expanded to include new arrival Spek and the official membership of their longtime DJ, L.A Luv (DJ.Luv).

They formed in 1988 (see 1988 in music) and released the jazz rap LP And Now, the Legacy Begins in 1991 (see 1991 in music), which was critically acclaimed and sold well in Canada, the United Kingdom and across Europe. The album spawned the hit single "My Definition of a Boombastic Jazz Style", which featured a prominent sample of Soul Bossa Nova by Quincy Jones which originally appeared on his 1962 LP Big Band Bossa Nova and was also the theme music to the Canadian game show Definition.

The 1994 follow-up, Subliminal Simulation, received mixed reviews, and has since been forgotten by some and named a cult favourite by others; it featured guest vocals by Ishmael Butler of Digable Planets (on the track "Tricycles and Kittens"), and Guru and DJ Premier contributed to two different versions of the song called "I've Lost My Ignorance (and Don't Know Where To Find It"). The album seemed to steer the band away from the pop success of their previous album. First single "Day In, Day Out" was well received by the hip hop community and largely showcased new member, Spek.

Their most recent album, 1997's The Master Plan, was poorly received and did not sell well. Spek officially left the band in 1997 and relocated to the U.K. Soon after DJ Luv left the band also. Back as the original line up the Warriors featured 1999 for The Herbaliser on the track "Road of Many Signs." This was followed by a greatest hits compilation which featured two new tracks from the band and they later released "Legacy Continues". An album which was said to be a return to their original sound but failed to get them the attention of their debut.

The band still remains the best selling Hip Hop group in Canadian history.
