Beyonce Knowles claims she missed out on a normal childhood.

The 'Dreamgirls' star, who started performing aged seven and was signed by a record company at 15, was so busy she couldn't go to school and so didn't have a lot of formative experiences.

Beyonce said: "I had fun. I had friends, birthday parties, slumber parties. But sometimes I missed out on the social side of things because I didn't go to school - I had a tutor.

"Now I'm spending time on movie sets, it's great because I can spend time with people, make friends and grow."

Beyonce, 25, shot to fame as the lead singer of girl group Destiny's Child before achieving global success as a solo artist and now critical acclaim as an actress.

In new movie 'Dreamgirls' - which has been nominated for an incredible eight Oscars - she plays Motown singer Deena Jones, a character who is loosely based on music legend Diana Ross.
